We made the Kalkáy Tinted SPF 30 Face Cream to fill a gap we saw in natural sun protection—mineral SPF that works for a range of skin tones while still providing the benefits of a moisturizing cream.

When we created the Kalkáy Tinted SPF 30 Face Cream, our goal wasn’t to create a makeup product, It was to create a daily sun protection ritual — one that feels nourishing, intentional, and supportive of skin health.Mineral SPF is one of the most effective and gentle forms of sun protection, but it can leave a white cast on the skin. We chose to include a very light, sheer tint to help soften that effect — not to change skin tone or offer coverage, but to allow the formula to blend more naturally and leave the skin looking luminous.

At the same time, we want to be transparent and clear: this tint will not work for everyone. We recognize that one shade cannot meet the needs of every complexion. The scent of Ḵalḵáy (Rosa spp ) transports me to the generations before me of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh kin who have been in relationships with this plant from the time before memory. The Wild Rose symbolizes the grace of our Land. Its petals soothe and soften, while its seeds, rich in nutrients, fortify skin's barrier.

Jojoba Seed Oil

Pressed from the seeds of the jojoba shrub, jojoba oil (Simmondsia chinensis) is technically a liquid wax ester that closely mimics the skin’s natural sebum. Golden and lightweight, it absorbs easily without clogging pores, making it one of the most skin-compatible oils available. Its stability and non-comedogenic nature make it ideal for all skin types, including oily and sensitive skin.

Chamomile

Chamomile is a gentle, aromatic herb derived from the flowers of Chamaemelum nobile (Roman chamomile). Our heritage botanicals grow and thrive in particular terroir. We observe these plants throughout their growing season, looking for the cues and signs that they are ready to be harvested. This kind of awareness leads to a connection to place and a knowledge that can only be developed over time.

Are you cruelty-free?

Yes, we are cruelty-free. Sourcing from suppliers that are cruelty-free is a priority for us.

Do you harvest all of your botanicals by hand?

Due to the nature of our growing business, we are not able to sustainably and ethically hand harvest all of the botanicals we use in our products. We hand harvest materials as a team here in Squamish, BC and source from local suppliers.

Is your packaging recyclable?

Yes! All of our cartons are FSC certified and recyclable. Our products are packaged in recyclable glass and our tea bags can be composted.

Do you have a storefront?

Yes. Our Store and Headquarters is located in Squamish BC. Our address is 37756 3rd Ave. We are open Monday through Friday: 9:30am-4:30pm and Saturdays 11am - 3pm.

Sun Safety Glow

When we think of sun protection, sometimes we can tend to forget about the winter months. That is true for me, though it shouldn't be. I was so thrilled to learn about Sḵwálwen's new Kalkáy Tinted SPF 30 Face Cream, which has quickly become my new sun safety go-to!

Having mature skin, I find many facial sunscreen products can "pool" in my wrinkles when they dry, but the Kalkáy cream stays beautifully smooth on my face with the perfect amount of tint to make me feel vibrant. It has a pleasant, mild scent and does not feel heavy on my skin. A little goes a long way, making it a great value!

Another fine example of Dr. Leigh and her team's commitment to providing us with safe, luxurious products. I'm grateful for their innovation and exceptional customer experience, and I highly recommend Kalkáy Tinted SPF 30 Face Cream as a part of your sun-safety skincare routine!

Great product!

I really enjoyed using this sunscreen overall. It has a very light scent that isn’t overpowering, and it applies without leaving any white cast, which is a big plus. When first applied, it feels slightly sticky, but once it dries down, that sensation completely goes away.
I have very sensitive, acne-prone skin, and I’m happy to say this sunscreen didn’t irritate my skin or cause any breakouts.
The only downside for me is that I can still feel it sitting on my skin throughout the day, which is more of a sensory issue on my end. That said, this is something I experience with most sunscreens, so it’s not unique to this product. It feels gentle and comfortable compared to many others I’ve tried.
Overall, it’s a great option for anyone with sensitive or acne-prone skin looking for a lightweight sunscreen with no white cast.

Love this product!

Love this product! I have to be pretty careful about wearing sunscreen daily, and have tried several. The first thing I loved about this was the scent - its nice to have a sunscreen that, well, smells nice! It rubs in really well and feels great on my skin throughout the day.

Can I give it an 11/10??

I can't even tell you how many tinted SPFs I've tried over the years. Either they felt greasy, left a white cast, felt cake-y and heavy, or stung my eyes when I sweat. Thankful that those days are now gone. I LOVE this stuff! I just used it on a trip to Mexico and it was flawless, but I'm continuing to use it daily to protect my mid-thirties skin. Goes on smooth, blends flawlessly, wears well throughout the day, and it doesn't feel like there's anything on my face at all. This one now has a permanent spot in my toiletries bag!
