Our Story
At Sḵwálwen, we sustainably harvest and source sacred plants that are known to help heal, hydrate, renew and bring balance.
Our heritage botanicals grow and thrive in particular terroir. We observe these plants throughout their growing season, looking for the cues and signs that they are ready to be harvested. This kind of awareness leads to a connection to place and a knowledge that can only be developed over time.

I live rough and have few luxuries. My body is not fond of most soaps, lotions or creams. I make a few good salves for cuts and bites, and protection from the wind and cold, and use bear grease for a few things. And these are all really good, and helpful. But these salves you make – the texture is silk, the scent profiles are stunning.
I have been carting all three salves around with me, the way a child carries something precious to them. I open and close them several times a day, just to breath in the scents. The Kalkáy Salve wraps around me, and Shkweń, well, the scent of Shkweń reminds me of home, and my father’s tobacco, and late summer fields. Nettle and I are friends, but now Devil’s Claw is no longer a stranger. I am rubbing Shkweń into my hands, and it is helping the swelling in my knuckles.
I bought the 3 pack of salves based on a recommendation from a friend. I have chronic sore lower back muscles and a friend shared a salve she made that had devils club and I had never heard of it. It really helped relieve muscle pain in my lower back and also my neck. My friend told me about Skwalwen products so i bought all 3 of the salves and use the shkwen salve regularly on my neck and back and it works great! I like the earthy smell of all of them and they sink into the skin and dont feel greasy at all. I highly recommend these products.
I have worked with the Macushi people in the Rupununi of Guyana, and the Kichwa (descendants of the Inca) in the Ecuadorian Andes. Their medicines come from from the forests and the land. You won't find healthier, better looking people anywhere. It is so good to find Skwalwen Botanical in British Columbia; to have such gentle and effective salves that come from our own environment.
